This Love is a Real Hoot

Love is everywhere—sometimes, it even has feathers.
This past week, as I traveled to Puerto Vallarta to soak in the sunshine and salty air with my husband, my heart has been filled to the brim. Love for my work. Love for my people. Love for the signs the universe keeps sending me, whispering (or, in this case, hooting), “I’m still here.”
My sister, Cherie, was a force—a bright, wise, witty soul who loved to travel, laugh, and surround herself with good people, good times, and, of course, the color purple. She passed away last May after a battle with a brain tumor, but if you think that means she’s stopped showing up in my life, think again. This week alone, she’s been everywhere—hiding in plain sight, in the form of owls.
First, it was the lady in front of me in customs with an owl-print neck pillow (a stylish, albeit questionably supportive, travel choice). Then, another woman in line with an owl-covered tote. In our quest for a wonderful dinner in Bucerius the following day, there hanging above one of the village shops, an owl t-shirt. The next stop I noticed a colorful ceramic owl. Yesterday at the pool, I overheard two couples talking about how an owl had come and landed on the rool of their home. And today? Another owl decoration, staring right at me at the farmers market as if to say, “You think I’d miss this trip? Not a chance.”

Cherie always encouraged me to travel, to seek adventure, to laugh, and to embrace life fully. And now, she’s proving she’s still along for the ride—whether as a wise, winged messenger or just reminding me that love is everywhere when we choose to see it.
So this week’s MYLO Mag is about just that—love. Loving your work, your brand, your people. Surrounding yourself with those who lift you up and keep you laughing (because, let’s be real, Cherie was a hoot, and if she taught me anything, it’s that life’s too short not to enjoy it).
Wherever you are, whatever you’re doing—look for the love. It might just be staring at you from a tote bag.
